We Christians are in a great spiritual battle! Satan, a fallen angel and his followers try to rob, kill and destroy everything that’s important to God. Satan’s angry because God cast him out of the third heaven for trying to usurp the throne of God. Satan was so puffed up with pride that he thought he could take over God’s throne. He conspired and convinced a large number of angels to join him. Satan is not God or God’s son, rather he is an angel, a created being.
Satan does not have the power to hurt or destroy God, and he knows it. However, he tries to hurt God by attacking His people. He’s out to rob, kill and destroy whoever he can. Scripture warns us about Satan saying, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9 KJV)
Satan also has an army of fallen angels who work along side of him trying to destroy everything that’s important to God. Scripture tells us about Satan’s helper saying, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12 KJV) These evil forces are working overtime to destroy God’s work and God’s people. But God is mightier than all of this and He is able to protect what belongs to Him!
God loves people! “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17 KJV)
God wants a special people of His own, a people who will love Him by choice. However, God has left the decision up to each individual person; He will not force His way on anyone because God is love. God gets no glory for producing a kingdom of robots and forcing them to love and obey Him. God wants His people to become sons in His eternal kingdom, serving Him and each other on earth and in His heavenly household.
God has prepared a way and offered a plan of salvation to all who will come to Him, believe, repent and be born again. Jesus died on that cross to atone for our sin and prepare a way for people to become sons of God, inheriting salvation, eternal life in heaven, and an abundance of other earthly and heavenly gifts. God wants us to choose His way, the way of love. In 2 John 1:6 scripture says, “And this is love, that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.” (KJV) If we are born again and walk through our pilgrimage here on earth, God will–with the resurrection power–raise us up to heaven to be with Him.
God also works through His people by demonstrating His power through them, and using that power to destroy the works of the enemy. After we’re born again, we become members of God’s family–and targets for Satan and his host of followers. Because of this, we enter into a great spiritual battle for the souls of men. Because of this, we need to learn how to recognize and protect ourselves from the tactics of our foes and how to offensively war against them with the Word of God.
As we live our daily lives, we will hear and/or see the evil influences of Satan and his followers. These permeate the universe we live in. We can see the increasing evil everyday as we watch the news on TV or listen to it on the radio. We are in a great battle against this evil, and God is our source of Spiritual power. God has already won the victory but we have to walk through life, facing and overcoming the enemies arrows. With God with us, fighting our battle, all we have to do is stand and persevere until the end. God has already won the victory!
