After God called me to write, He put my first book “Heart to heart: A Discipleship and Mentoring Plan” on my heart to write. When you see the title, notice the first word “Heart” is capitalized. That’s not only for correct grammar but it is also to signify that the capital H stands for the heart of God. God pours the love from His heart into our hearts through the work of the Holy Spirit.
God existed before time and He will continue to live throughout eternity. He is the originator and source of life, and the source of divine, heart and life-changing power. God will change the hearts and lives of people as they read His word, the Holy Bible. God will continue His work until the end of time. The Bible is God’s story and it reveals Him and His plan from the beginning until the end of time on earth, as we know. We can read about what happens when we die, and how to choose where we will live throughout eternity.
When speaking about God’s heart, we must know that it is pure love, in all of its various facets. God’s nature is love. Scripture tells us, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8 NKJV)
God demonstrated His love for us and gave us an example of that love. Scripture tells us, “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:9-10 NKJV)
Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, came into this world to pay the penalty for our sins so that we might have eternal life and become God’s adopted Sons and members of His heavenly household. God the Father gave up His most precious Son to be the sacrifice for our sins and the way for us to come to God. True agape love sacrifices self for the benefit of someone else. Jesus was our demonstration of this love.
As we come to the second “heart” in the title of this book, we see the heart of mankind after they have been born again by God’s Holy Spirit. We can see that God changes our sinful, unloving heart and gives us a new heart of flesh. In the Bible book of Ezekiel (Ezekiel 11:16-20), we can read about this change. God also put His Spirit in us so that we can walk in His statutes and keep His judgments and do them; and we shall become God’s people, and He will become our God. God also pours His love into our hearts by way of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:5) He pours His love out to us so we can love God back and love others around us.
So the title “HEART to heart” represents God’s pouring His heart and love into us. God loves us more than we can ever fathom. He loves us with an everlasting love.
In 1 Corinthians 13:2 (NKJV) the Bible tells us, “And though I have the gift of prophesy; and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so I could remove all mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” In 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV) scripture says, “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” As God’s children we are commanded to love God and others, even our enemies. The Bible tells us they will know we are Christians by our love.
Heart to heart: A Discipleship and Mentoring Plan comes from a love that God has put in my heart to share His word with others. God is love, and He alone has the answers to the problems we face in our daily lives. I desire to pass the love and hope God has given me onto those who read and work through this book. By reading it I hope you come to know God, the great love He has for you, and how to share it with others in small groups!
